Hi, I'm Ying Ju Chiu, people call me Ruru.
I am an ecommerce consultant with over 10 years of work experience in the sector. I help people sell their products and services online, with experience in both big ecommerce platforms and independent retail supplies. Although my work experience is based in Taiwan, my work skills are easily transferrable and I'm a quick learner, always eager to learn new things.
I also believe my knowledge of a different and ripe market such as the Taiwanese and Asian ones can bring fresh perspectives and ideas to the local British market.
My first job was a product manager/business developer at a sales team for one of the biggest ecommerce websites in Taiwan. I recruited new suppliers, found new products and managed my product category. After working with over 200 suppliers, I decided to work for an independent online supplier.
I independently managed 5 different brands, and my responsibilities included product design, photo shooting, landing page design, pricing and marketing strategy, and revenue monitoring. Throughout my service, I always maintained a direct contact with my clients, ensuring their needs were fully met.
At this point in time, I had learnt the necessary skills involved in selling a new brand online. I thus decided to become a freelancer, and worked with different companies. During these years as a freelancer I gained the most valuable experience, as I independently conceived a brand, assisted proactively in its development and curated its marketing campaign.
A local food shop also managed to survive during the COVID-19 pandemic thanks to my service, selling their products online for the first time with great success.
Thinking about the present and the future, I believe the Internet and smartphones have shaped our world differently. More and more people stop visiting shops and tend to buy things online, therefore more and more stores are shutting down. In this time, being visible online and thinking in a creative way to sell yourself is more important than anything else.
Based on my observations, while most businesses post their products online, often they don't really know how to attract clients, what the strengths of their brand are, and how to avoid getting stuck in the lowest price competition, i.e. how to stand out without necessarily offering the lowest price.
My goal is to help independent stores establishing their business online, not only to boost revenue but also to keep the business running sustainably. I particularly care about the high-street experience, and I would love to help local businesses stay healthy, independent and diverse. I believe this can be achieved with the right synergy between ecommerce and in-store shopping.
I'm also a skilled photographer specialised in both product and portrait shooting.
