The EV revolution is rising rapidly and taking over the streets, but does it actually make financial sense for your daily commute? Let’s break down the real, everyday numbers.

The Daily Fuel Costs Per Kilometre

Let’s analyse your daily ride to the office or college. If we analyse the current fuel prices, a traditional petrol scooter can cost roughly Rs 2 to Rs 2.50 for every single kilometre you travel. However, it's not a big deal, but soon it piles up and translates into huge costs.

Now just take an example of an electric scooter. Your energy costs are slashed to a mere Rs 0.20 to Rs 0.30 per kilometre. Let’s put these numbers into a real-world scenario.

Petrol Scooter: If your daily commute is around 30 Km, you will end up spending Rs 22,000 to Rs 27,000 a year on fuel costs.

Electric Scooter: By switching to an electric scooter, your annual charging expense drops to just Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,300, saving up to Rs 25,000 every year on running costs. Following an electric scooter charging guide ensures you optimize electricity tariffs while maximizing overall battery health.

The Garage Visits: Maintenance

Apart from fuel, the maintenance costs are very important. Petrol scooters are quite complex as they are equipped with hundreds of moving parts that demand constant check-ups. It also includes routine engine oil changes, air filters, spark plugs, and inevitable clutch plate wear.

Electric scooters are incredibly simple machines as they require no engine oil to change and get a fraction of moving parts (more likely a battery, controller, and a motor), thus there is a very little possibility of mechanical errors.

Conclusion

It is completely true that an electric scooter is around Rs 10,000 to Rs 30,000 more expensive than a petrol scooter. However, when you combine the significant savings from cheap electricity and less maintenance, you can easily recover the additional amount within the first 12 to 18 months of riding. After hitting that break-even point, every single kilometre is a pure profit for your wallet.
