Sakthivel Alagarsamy

Passionate in nature since childhood, I have chosen conservation research as my career and have 10 years of professional experience with reputed organizations in Tamil Nadu like Annamalai University – Chidambaram, Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Aquaculture – Sirkazhi and M S Swaminathan Research Foundation’s “Fish for All” Research, Training Centre – Poompuhar and Kuddle Life Foundation Puducherry.

I have published a total of 17 research articles in peer reviewed national and inter-national journals.

I have worked in different projects ranging from research and post harvesting in close association with Tamil Nadu government departments such as fisheries, Forest and agriculture depts. Also, I have extensively worked with local farming and fishing communities at different locations in the State Tamil Nadu.

Most of my projects were related to post-harvest fish processing, hygienic dry fish production, ornamental and freshwater fish culture, artificial reef management, ocean monitoring, integrated farming systems and also in conservation of coastal and marine biodiversity.

Always shared my expertise with the fishing and farming communities for improving their living standards with sustainable and alternate livelihoods options.

I have supported the students and research scholars through guest lectures, capacity building events and internship program.

I have also developed communication materials and training manuals pertaining to farming and fishing practices.

My experiences and qualifications have acutely informed and determined me to have a long-run in conserving nature and people in harmony.
