On the academic level, I hold a bachelor’s degree in finance and master’s in accounting & Finance and I was at the top of my graduation. My master thesis was about the effect of corporate governance on financial stability in the insurance sector.
My first experience as inspector/ financial analyst was in public sector mainly insurance commission and ministry of industry, trade, and supply in Jordan. I was responsible for analyzing the financial statements of insurance companies, understand international financial reporting standards, perform data analytics, and trend analysis and conduct regular onsite inspection to check compliance with insurance commission rules and regulations.
The second experience was in the private sector as internal audit manager. At that time, I was looking for a clear career path with higher responsibilities. I was responsible for the department of internal audit, preparing annual plans, preparing audit procedures, execute audit assignment, prepare final report, and follow up on agreed recommendations.
I was secretary of the audit committee and responsible for arranging meetings, recording minutes of meetings, and coordinating meetings with management and external audit. This responsibility gave me experience with high level management, being organized, respect confidentiality and being able to take accurate notes of meetings. As department manager, I was responsible for one auditor, I coached and taught him per the department methodology and procedures.
My third experience was in a UN agency as auditor in UNRWA. The purpose of this change was to diversify my experience away from the insurance sector. In this job I work with audit team throughout the assignments with the view to ensure conformity with Institute of Internal Audit (IIA) standards in all phases of the audit process, develop and discusses findings, recommendations, and timelines for corrective actions, collect, organize, manage, and disseminate information with accuracy, and conduct data collection and analysis using data analysis tools and Participate in the risk-based work plan assignments.
Working with UNRWA gave me solid experience in UN work such as relief, education, health and give me familiarity with SAP system as used system. In 2020 and as a respond to covid-19 we worked remotely form home for 2 years, which gave experience in conducting remote work using system of MS-TEAM To improve my knowledge and experience in audit I earned CIA certificate in 2017 and currently provides training in this certificate in addition to short courses in audit subject such as develop risk based internal audit plan.
On a personal level, I’m a fighter, ambitious and ethical person. For example, regardless of 10 years of experience in insurance sector, I faced the challenge and change my comfort zone and join new and complicated structure under one of the largest UN agencies in Jordan, and I still looking for international position where I can provide my experience and knowledge worldwide.
Being one of UN staff helped me to became one of UNRWA team that work indirectly to serve refugees in receiving their needs and reliefs. I loved to work in an agency that has commitments toward gender quality, protection and fulfilling human rights instead of focusing on profits and increasing the stock price. Sometime life is more than money and profit, it’s more about life and soul.
