I am currently finishing my PhD at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgical Specialties, UMC Utrecht. My PhD thesis is centred around the translational aspects of bone tissue engineering.
During my PhD, I investigated various aspects of endochondral bone regeneration such as the immune response to the use of allogeneic-derived chondrogenic implants in a small animal model and bone regeneration in in a large animal model. I also worked on the vascular aspects of bone regeneration using co-culture models of endothelial cells and mesenchymal stem cells and through the implementation of an arteriovenous (AV) loop in a small animal model. During my previous employments, my main focus was on drug formulation where I worked mostly on theranostic approaches for breast cancer.
In particular, I worked on nanoparticle formulation, organic chemistry synthesis, radio-chemistry and -imaging for applications in orthotopic and ectopic models breast cancer models in small animals. I have also worked on the formulation and application of a wound healing patch in a cutaneous wound healing model.
