I am a biologist from Denmark, currently living in Amstelveen, Netherlands. I earned my Master’s degree in biology at Aalborg University, in which group-based learning and project-work is a central part- this means, among others, that I have a great deal of practical experience in the laboratory. I have an affinity for working in the laboratory, and have spent a significant amount of time there, not only out of necessity but because I enjoy it. I am quick to learn new methods, which is something I also enjoy doing, and generally have a good sense of order and cleanliness in the laboratory. Learning and understanding a new method opens up a new way of seeing the world, something I never tire of. I have experience with molecular biology, such as ELISA, PCR and NGS (illumina). I am very open and enthused to learning more, and to excel at the tasks that you are seeking to have completed.
I work well both on my own and as part of a team, something I have practiced during my studies as most semester projects are group-based (minimum 2, maximum 6 members). As a team member, the role of organizer and planner comes naturally to me, and when problems occur I am not phased by them, but work towards finding solutions without dwelling on the negative aspects. Everyone makes mistakes and I do not point fingers but instead find that it is best to keep moving forward. This was also tested as a teacher, as students inevitably make mistakes- but handling that as a useful learning event promotes growth.
The laboratory-work in my final thesis I carried out on my own, where I proved myself capable to work on my own in the laboratory with satisfactory results, something which my supervisors specifically complimented me on. When I am introduced to a new method I will ask a lot of questions, in this way I gain confidence to handle it on my own later on.
I am in general a hands-on type of person, and as much as I love being in the nice, orderly laboratory, I also very much enjoy field-work if the opportunity arises, and will never be afraid of getting my hands dirty. I am a good planner and organizer, skills that I also utilized as a high-school teacher as I was responsible for ordering materials, booking the lab, checking the equipment needed beforehand, supervising the students and of course carrying out responsible waste-management, for the class-exercises. I am good at handling responsibility for several different areas, and enjoy having a diverse set of tasks. I am currently improving my skills in Data Science, and am taking an online course from the Danish Technological University (DTU), as this is a skill that I would like to develop further, and I find it useful such as when handling gene sequencing data. I am by nature a very honest and open individual, and very empathetic- traits that help me create a balanced social/work environment.
If you think I would fit in with your team, I will be happy to hear from you.
