Experience
As the Lead Developer for my CS619 Final Year Project, I engineered "IntruSniff," a Python-based Network Intrusion Detection System (NIDS) utilizing Scapy. I successfully implemented signature and rule-based logic to detect volumetric attacks, including SYN, UDP, and ICMP floods, alongside port scanning activities. To ensure robust security, I developed application-layer inspection mechanisms to analyze network payloads for vulnerabilities, accurately spotting SQL Injection (SQLi) and Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) threats.
Additionally, I built a dynamic terminal UI using Colorama to provide live alerts, session statistics, dynamic rule management, and dual-format incident logging in JSON and Text formats. I rigorously validated the system's detection accuracy by simulating real-world attacks using hping3 and Nmap within a Kali Linux environment.
