Akash Shahi

I am an undergraduate pursuing a degree in Environmental Earth System Sciences, graduating in May 2024, with numerous experiences accumulated across academic research, ecosystem service modelling, strategies consulting, teaching, and internships. My research experience on Singapore's urban green space have developed my skills in QGIS, InVEST modelling, and Google Earth Engine as I assessed ecosystem services related to flood mitigation, stormwater retention, and urban cooling. I also previously worked at ComfortDelGro as a Sustainability Intern, where I applied and deepened my knowledge of ESG.

My knowledge in ESG Reporting Frameworks was further developed through a Final Year Project, where I conducted a content analysis of selected ESG Frameworks (GRI and ISSB) before analysing the urban carbon systems that these frameworks can be leveraged upon to bring about sustainable outcomes. Presently, as a Junior Consultant at GRC's NTU Chapter, my team and I partnered with Greenpeace to evaluate past environmental projects and develop actionable insights. My experience as a Teaching Assistant in Climate Change was key to working with students and developing my knowledge in climate-related issues.

Final Year Project, The Potential Role of ESG Reporting Frameworks In Urban Carbon Metabolism

• Investigated the role of ESG reporting frameworks in tackling sustainability issues via a content analysis
• Adopted a systems-thinking approach to identify major urban carbon systems influenced by each reported segment
• Evaluated ESG Reporting with reference to ecological modernisation to understand its space for feasible action

• Modelled flood modelling, stormwater retention, and urban cooling services in Singapore using InVEST software
• Performed statistical hypothesis testing of ecosystem services across Singapore’s 3 main housing types using R
• Developed spatial models to identify the 5 top and bottom performing planning subzones for ecosystem service

• Collaborated in a strategy and insights consulting project with Greenpeace to evaluate internal programmes
• Analysed campaign evaluations content using Dedoose software to identify enablers and barriers in a team of 6
• Engaged in a Data Analysis Triangulation and Interpretation session, deriving actionable insights for future events

• Developed course materials, quizzes, and grading frameworks for a course of 90 undergraduate with teaching team
• Led three tutorial discussions on environmental frameworks, climate politics, and literature review writing
• Conducted consultation for undergraduates in group presentations on climate impacts analysis and literature review paper on climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies

• Analysed ESG scoring reports and metrics to generate insights for ComfortDelGro’s sustainability efforts
• Gained familiarity on sustainability reporting frameworks, including TCFD and SBTi 
• Compiled research on carbon credits ecosystem, supporting net-zero trajectory for ComfortDelGro

I am graduating in May 2024 with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Earth Systems Science, Specialising in Society and Earth Systems. Key skills developed include research writing, teaching, ESG Reporting Frameworks, climate change and sustainability, environmental economics, data science and management, geospatial softwares like ArcGIS and QGIS
