I came into finance the long way around. I started out studying biotechnology at Singapore Polytechnic, but I kept finding myself more interested in how companies were valued and funded than in the science itself. So I took night classes in economics and finance on my own to test whether the interest was real. It was, and I transferred to NUS to study Finance properly.
Since then I've tried to get as much hands-on experience as I can. For an equity research project, I looked at a company with persistent negative equity, decided a Dividend Discount Model made more sense than the usual approach, and ran a 10,000-trial Monte Carlo simulation to pressure-test it. It led me to a Sell call that went against the consensus, and defending that reasoning taught me a lot.
At REC Solar, a renewable energy manufacturer, I built the business case for a capital investment that identified around $37K in sourcing savings, which gave me a real feel for the CapEx and asset economics behind infrastructure. Along the way I've also spent time getting genuinely good at Excel, automating repetitive modeling work with Power Query and DAX so the analysis runs cleaner.
I'm applying to DigitalBridge because it sits right where my interest has settled: disciplined investing in real, fast-growing assets, with an operator's mindset rather than a purely financial one. I still have a lot to learn, and this is exactly the environment I want to learn it in.
