Research and Academic Publishing

My core passion and experiences have been in the field of research and academic publishing. After obtaining a Ph.D. in Physics from the National University of Singapore, I have worked in the arena of commercial R&D (Evonik) and academic journal management (World Scientific Publishing and MDPI). The responsibilities of both portfolios necessitate a high level of multi-tasking ability as they require management (of either research projects or journals) with multiple moving parts and constant coordination of collaborative efforts with multi-national employees of various backgrounds. Specifically, my stint as the secretariat of IUPAP for 6 years has provided me with the opportunity to work closely with prominent scientists (i.e. Nobel Laureates) and decision-makers in various scientific organizations (such as the National Physical Society of various countries). These experiences have allowed me to gain a deep insight into the overall workings of the global STEM enterprise, which has been most valuable in my work as an academic publisher. I also pride myself as being highly mobile and adaptable in multi-lingual and multi-cultural environments. Being born and raised in Mainland China, subsequently obtaining my doctorate, and working in Singapore since 2002, as well as having lived in the United States for over 2 years (2009-2011), I have had the benefit of working successfully with people of highly diverse backgrounds and perspectives. This has also been highly beneficial in my managerial roles in both portfolios.
