Begum was born and raised in Kadiköy, İstanbul. She is focused on finding sustainable solutions to engineering problems through innovative material synthesis and analysis. Her academic interests include semiconductor and ceramic materials for functional energy and sensor applications. To pursue these goals, she studied Materials Engineering at the Gebze Institute of Technology (now known as Gebze Technical University), where she researched PEM fuel cell bipolar plates and solar cell buffer layers during her undergraduate and graduate studies. She earned her PhD at the University of Virginia under the supervision of Prof. Dr.
Zangari.
Begum is a full-time faculty member in the Metallurgy and Materials Engineering Department at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University (AYBU). She also serves as vice president at the Hydrogen Technologies and Energy Research Center, concentrating on fuel cells and green hydrogen production. In addition to her academic work, she represents the AYBU Career Center, organizing events and mentoring engineering students.
I hold the position of Assistant Professor in the Metallurgy and Materials Engineering department and serve as the Vice Director of the Hydrogen Technologies and Energy Applications Research Center (H2 Team) at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University. In these roles, I have led and collaborated with research teams in Turkey and the United States on developing bipolar plates for proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) and photoelectrochemical electrodes. My experience in material synthesis, characterization, and electrochemical performance analysis began during my undergraduate studies and has continued to grow throughout my academic career.
