A nanny is a person who works for a family as a live-in or live-out nanny. A nanny's primary responsibility is to care for the children in the home in an essentially unsupervised environment. A nanny should be concerned about the development and well-being of a child. While the parents are at work, the children will be cared about by a nanny. It is the role of the nanny to construct a daily routine for the children and to engage them in activities that promote their mental, physical, and emotional development.

A nanny can be found through a nanny agency or through recommendations and word of mouth. After you've found possible nannies to hire, you'll need to conduct interviews with them. A phone interview is included in this procedure to select out prospects based on schedules, compensation, and other fundamentals. Set up in-person interviews after you've identified applicants that meet your basic standards. This will allow you to ask specific questions and provide scenarios.

Meeting a nanny in person allows you to get a better sense of the person's personality and how he or she interacts with your child. It's also crucial to pay attention to how the candidate communicates with you, as communication between parents and nannies is one of the most crucial aspects of the working relationship. If you have a positive feeling about a candidate after the interview, ask for references so you may speak with previous families the nanny has worked for and learn more about them.

A nanny is first and foremost accountable for your children's safety, care, and well-being. Cleaning that is relevant to the children is another duty that nannies are often responsible for. This involves doing children's laundry, cleaning their rooms, preparing or packing snacks and meals for them, as well as maintaining, cleaning, and caring for their things (high chair, cot, toys, stroller, etc.), driving them to and from school and activities, and assisting them with homework. This could be stated in a contract that the nanny is only accountable for child-related tasks.

Other nannies are willing to help with light housekeeping tasks including unloading and loading the dishwasher, general tidying and straightening, sweeping/light mopping/wiping off the kitchen, and rubbish collection. If a nanny offers to vacuum, clean, iron, or do errands for you, this is an extra service that should not be anticipated without previous discussion and agreement from the nanny.

Do Nannies Have Formal Training?

Although there is no formal training required to work as a nanny, many nannies have years of experience working with children. In addition to several years of nanny experience, many nannies have attended basic safety lessons such as CPR and some have advanced childcare training.

Different Working Arrangements

A nanny can work full-time (40 hours or more per week), part-time, or as part of a nanny share. Many nannies are live-out nannies, which means they have their own house and visit the families during the day. The family also has other nannies that live with them. Also, it is recommended to use nanny cams to keep an eye on your baby and nanny.

How Are Nannies Paid?

Many nannies are paid a weekly wage based on hourly rates, with taxes deducted from their compensation. Nannies work all year, and it is standard practise for them to receive at least two weeks of paid vacation time, as well as pay for holidays.
Amount of children, age of children, nanny experience, number of hours worked, where you reside, whether you require additional responsibilities, and many other factors all influence how much a nanny should earn.

Many families and nannies collaborate to develop a nanny contract that specifies out all of the job's terms and conditions, like vacation time, sick days, obligations, how to get out of the contract, and other details.

Because a nanny is such a crucial part of your family and your child's life, choose wisely and talk frequently and freely with her. Although Mary Poppins is a fictional character, a good nanny is someone who will have a long-term positive impact on your life and make a lasting impression.
