Job description
Position: Associate Software Engineer
Location: Raleigh, NC (Hybrid)Pay: $85,000-$115,000
Type: Full-time
Schedule: Hybrid in office M-Tues-Wed
Overview
Array HQ builds software for high-volume hiring and frontline workforce operations, where AI agents take on repetitive work and people stay in the loop on the decisions that matter. We're looking for an Associate Software Engineer with about 2–3 years of professional experience who wants to own features from design through production: strong in Python and agent systems, comfortable on a .NET / React platform, and motivated by shipping AI products that hold up in production, not slide decks.Compensation: $85,000–$115,000 per year, depending on experienceWork arrangement: Hybrid, based in Raleigh, NCReports to: Director of Software Engineering, on a team of 20 engineers
What you'll do
- Build and extend AI agents (backend tools, workflows, and user-facing experiences) using Python, Pydantic AI, and AGUI, our agent UI layer
- Ship features end-to-end: requirements, implementation, automated tests, production rollout, and fixes when behavior changes in the wild
- Connect agents to the rest of the product (APIs, hiring and workforce data, access controls, and audit logs) using .NET microservices, React, and TypeScript when work spans the agent and platform layers
- Debug across models, prompts, application code, and data; improve reliability and observability as usage grows
- Partner with product and other engineers: estimate work, communicate progress, review code, and give constructive feedback
- Use coding agents daily as part of how the team works; we fund the tooling to do that well
- Experience: ~2–3 years building production software (or equivalent depth from internships plus substantial projects)
- AI product interest: You care how agents behave for real users (test suites and evals, failure modes, UX around model output), not only that you can call an API
- Craft: Proficiency in Python plus at least one other language; comfort reading and improving a large existing codebase
- Quality: Strong testing habits, sound API and data design, and judgment about when to optimize
- Communication: Self-directed problem solving, clear written updates, and willingness to ask early when requirements are fuzzy
- Real products: Customer-facing AI agents for recruiting and workforce operations, not internal-only chatbots
- Engineering discipline: Structured evaluations before and after release, tracing and monitoring of agent runs, clear human review on consequential steps, and permissions tied to the logged-in user, with the same audit history as the rest of the platform
Growth
This role has a clear path to the next level as you take on larger projects with less guidance, lead technical decisions, and help shape how the team builds. We'd especially love to hear from you if
- You've shipped agent, copilot, or automation features where quality and reliability mattered
- You can show something you built because you wanted to: side projects, open source, or experiments (especially AI)
- Staffing, logistics, restaurants, warehouses, fleets, or similar high-volume frontline environments interest you, because software has to work when operations depend on it
