Looking exclusively for back end developer's NOT full stack. If the resume reads 50/50 or below 70% back end, we will not be able to move forward with the application.

AWS experience is also a must

Downtown Chicago, IL (near west loop)

Workplace type:

Onsite/hybrid (Hybrid; will need to go into office 2x a week; but MUST be open to the potential of being 100% onsite at some point during the contract, could be after first month)

IV type: 1 tech screen prior to submission-3 rounds- ( 1 hour each typically); coding exercises, theoretical questions to answer, etc.

Must haves:

Bachelor's degree in computer science or electrical engineering or related field is required w/ 10 years' experience needed- cannot be 9 years and 9 months, must be minimum 10 years of experience OR Master's degree with 8 years' experience

Good tenure- last two roles must be at least 1.5-2 years minimum tenure to be considered

Majority back-end development experience (overall 75-80% back end versus front end) and back-end developer job titles

Agile framework experience /scrum environment ideally

Hands on AWS experience (kinesis, SNS, SQL, S3, DynamDB, RDS)- Deploying and maintaining software using public AWS clouds

Java development- with versions 11, 17 or higher

Hands on data base experience

Kafka experience

Leadership experience is HUGE (team lead, etc)

Any AI experience is HUGE plus

Enterprise level work environment

• Designing, developing, deploying and maintaining software at scale.
• Developing software applications using relational and NoSQL databases.
• Application architectural patterns, such as MVC, Microservices, Eventdriven, etc.
• Deploying software using CI/CD tools, such as Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GoCD, etc

Strong understanding and/or experience in many of the following:

• Message streaming solutions, such as AWS Kinesis, AWS SQS, AWS SNS, Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, Apache ActiveMQ.
• Experience designing welldefined Restful APIs
• Hands on experience with API tools such as Swagger, Postman and Assertible o Test Driven Development and Behavior Driven Development.
• Hands on experience with testing tools such as Cucumber and Selenium and their integration into CI/CD pipelines.
• Datastores such as AWS Aurora, AWS RDS, AWS DynamoDB, MongoDB, ElasticSearch, Cassandra, Redis, MySQL, Oracle. o Other AWS technologies, such as API Gateway, ALB, NLB, Fargate, Lambda, S3, CloudWatch, etc
• Debugging and maintaining software in Linux or Unix platforms

• Must demonstrate solid knowledge of Computer Science fundamentals, such as data structures and algorithms.
• Ability to work under pressure and within time constraints

• Demonstrated leadership on small to mediumscale projects impacting strategic priorities

Job Description:

The main function of a software engineer is to apply the principles of computer science and mathematical analysis to the design, development, testing, and evaluation of the software and systems that make computers work.

A typical software engineer researches, designs, develops and tests software.

Typical task breakdown:

Competent to perform all programming, project management, and development assignments without close supervision

Works directly on complex application/technical problem identification and resolution, including responding to off-shift and weekend support calls

Works independently on complex systems or infrastructure components that may be used by one or more applications or systems.

Drives application development focused around delivering business value

Mentors and assists software engineers, providing technical assistance and direction as needed

Maintains high standards of software quality within the team by establishing good practices and habits

Proactively reaches out for help when stuck on an issue after doing reasonable independent research

Maintains a sense of urgency when working on tasks and actively followup on any dependencies or blockers
