About The Role Mesh is seeking a highly experienced Staff Backend Engineer to help architect and develop the foundational components of the world’s first global crypto payments network. In this role, you will operate across the full technology stack, from backend systems to user-facing applications, influencing key technical decisions and shaping the future of digital finance.
You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including engineering, product, and design to develop secure, scalable, and seamless financial experiences. As a senior technical leader, you will define system architecture, mentor engineering teams, and influence product strategy. While we prefer candidates based in San Francisco to work closely with our core team and foster our engineering culture, we are also open to remote candidates within the United States.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in fintech or payments infrastructure
- Strong backend development skills in one or more of the following: C#, C++, Go, Java, Python
- Proficiency in cloud-native development, particularly with Azure
- Experience with Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines
- Deep understanding of security concepts including authentication, authorization, SAML, API security, and encryption
- Knowledge of blockchain and crypto fundamentals such as RPCs, self-custody wallets, and blockchain protocols
- Solid experience designing RESTful APIs and microservices architectures
- Prior leadership experience in high-growth startup environments is a plus
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills under pressure
- Passion for innovation, continuous learning, and growth
- Ability to thrive in ambiguous, fast-paced environments
- Own and drive the technical roadmap and implementation across multiple focus areas, balancing immediate needs with long-term vision
- Make key architectural decisions and design scalable, secure system architectures
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams
- Collaborate with leadership, product, and design teams to set strategic direction
- Develop, maintain, and optimize backend services and APIs to support high-volume transactions
- Leverage Azure cloud services for deployment, scalability, and reliability
- Conduct thorough testing, debugging, and prompt resolution of software defects
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in fintech and blockchain
- Build crypto-first, secure products that enable traditional financial activities such as payments and transfers
- Champion best practices in software engineering, infrastructure as code, and DevSecOps
- Drive architectural considerations and software best practices across projects to ensure robustness and security
