Computational Software Engineer

Responsibilities

Kforce has a client that is seeking a Computational Software Engineer in Waltham, MA

Summary:The client is looking for a Senior C++ Engineer to design and extend high-performance scientific software that models complex physical processes-primarily 3D electroplating and related electrostatics.

You will work within an established scientific codebase, add new modeling capabilities, improve performance, and support internal groups who rely on this shared platform.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Design & Develop Simulations:

Build production-quality software that simulates physical processes, especially 3D electroplating and electrostatics

Numerical Methods & Solvers:

Implement and optimize numerical solvers, including iterative methods and preconditioners for large linear systems

Performance Optimization:

Improve memory usage, compute time, and server/cluster efficiency for high-complexity 3D simulations

Extend an Existing Codebase:

Work within a shared scientific software stack, enhancing functionality while maintaining quality and performance

Cross-Team Collaboration:

Partner closely with a West Coast stakeholder team and internal engineering/science groups

Software Packaging:

Contribute to a modular software package for complex 3D physical modeling used across multiple internal teams

Requirements

Strong C++ programming skills (modern C++, performance & memory-efficient coding)

Hands-on experience writing numerical solvers and working with numerical linear algebra

Understanding of preconditioners and iterative methods (e.g., CG, GMRES)

Experience extending or integrating with existing scientific software

Solid grounding in scientific or computational modeling

Ability to translate well-defined physics into performant, production-quality code

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with electrochemical systems or electroplating (preferred)

Background in physical simulation-such as aerospace, mechanical simulation, electromagnetics, or electron flow

Experience in computational simulations and scientific computing The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role.

We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs.

This range may be modified in the future.

Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
