About Tandem

Tandem is building a multi-modal AI office space broker, capable of walking people through every step of their office search in an automated, personalized and scalable way. The way office space works and the industry behind it is getting completely flipped on its head right now. We are in the middle of a MAJOR disruption driven by three things:

• Nearly 50% of office space is currently sitting empty in US cities.
• Hybrid and remote work are here to stay. The five-days-in-the-office workweek is going away forever for many, many, many jobs.
• AI has reached the point where it can fully replace human office brokers

We’ve already placed hundreds of companies in offices, we’re doing 8 figures in yearly GTM, and we’re just getting started.

We’re a small, experienced team - currently we have 15 full time employees, and you would be joining as the 6th engineer including the CTO. Expect a fast-paced environment where you’ll have significant engineering ownership plus the opportunity to impact things outside of engineering like product, design, strategy, etc. You will report directly to the CTO, who is highly technical (ex-Google) and led two previous YC companies before Tandem.

What we’re looking for

CODING SKILLS - You must have the technical chops to bring big ideas to life:

2-8 years of full time engineering experience

Experience at a VC-backed startup, ideally at a very early stage (

Required: experience with React, Typescript, and Node or Next JS.

Required: Experience with full-stack web system design - you should be comfortable designing and thinking critically about front-end and back-end interactions, database models, cron jobs, API calls, webhooks and services.

About AI coding: We are EXTREMELY PRO using coding agents to help speed up dvelopment (we will buy you cursor/CC credits). Huge bonus points if you are a coding-agent wizard. But you must also know how to write code by hand - aka without prompting.

Experience building AI agents/workflows/RAG is a big plus

PRODUCT And COMMUNICATION SKILLS

• Ability to empathize with customers and think strategically about what to build and why.
• Ability to communicate clearly about product requirements and tradeoffs is a must.
• Extremely strong communication skills required.
• Experience owning features end to end

Role Logistics

• This role is open to anyone in the SF Bay Area. We have a hybrid in-person and remote team.
