Java Developer

Synthesis Systems is looking for a Java Developer for a contract opportunity in Washington, DC.

The position is an on-site contract.

Position description

The selected candidate will be responsible for full life-cycle software development of enterprise Java application as well as research and development of new technologies to improve existing applications. The candidate will also provide level 2 support for production applications. The selected candidate should have solid hands-on Java development experience, including detailed software design, developing code to implement the design, debug, and unit test, and integrating the applications.

Responsibilities

• Lead enterprise java application development supporting business objectives while providing expertise in software development lifecycle phases from concept and design to testing and delivery.
• Analyze, design and build component-based applications in a Web/Internet delivery environment.
• Work on new and existing applications along with enhancements to web sites, web applications, and infrastructure.
• Perform hands-on coding, mentor junior developers and assists in architecting web content solutions.
• Serve as liaison to internal customers, research groups and various business support areas.

Position requirements include

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or related discipline is required
• 2 or more years of Java software development experience

· Understanding of Object-Oriented Analysis and Design

• Knowledge of enterprise web application architecture as well as web design and development tools and languages, e.g. JSF, Servlets, SQL, ORM/Hibernate, JavaScript, HTML, Spring
• Knowledge of XML and related technologies such as SOAP, JAXP, JAXB, XPath, XML schema
• Enterprise Java experience including JSF, Hibernate and Spring highly desired
• Solid experience in developing web applications
• Solid understanding of relational databases (SQL Server, Oracle 8i/9i/10g/11i, Sybase, etc.)
• Strong unit test and system test skills
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and pay close attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
