About the Opportunity:

The JAVA DEVELOPER role focuses on supporting and modernizing mission-critical applications for the Department of Veterans Affairs. This position involves maintaining legacy enterprise platforms while contributing to modernization efforts using contemporary technologies such as Spring Boot, microservices, and APIs. The role directly impacts the enhancement and sustainment of applications that support vital government functions.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise Java applications
• Analyze and resolve software defects and production issues
• Support enhancements and sustainment of applications using Java, Spring Framework, Struts, JSP, EJB, JMS, WebLogic, Hibernate, Oracle, and related technologies
• Design and implement REST and SOAP services and integrations
• Develop modern backend services with Java 17+, Spring Boot, microservices, JPA/Hibernate, and REST APIs
• Collaborate on modernization initiatives with architects and senior developers
• Develop and optimize SQL queries and database integrations
• Participate in code reviews and mentor junior developers
• Contribute to automated testing, CI/CD, and application deployment
• Work within Agile teams to deliver software solutions

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience
• 3 to 7 years of software development experience
• Strong Java development skills
• Experience with Spring Framework and/or Spring Boot
• Experience developing REST APIs and web services
• Experience with Oracle or other relational databases
• Experience using Git-based source control
• Experience in Agile/Scrum environments
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with WebLogic administration or deployment
• Experience with Struts, JSP, EJB, JMS, or other enterprise Java technologies
• Experience with microservices architectures
• Experience with Docker and containerized applications
• Experience with React, JavaScript, or TypeScript
• Experience supporting federal government or VA programs
• Experience with Jira and Confluence

Pay Range and Compensation Package:

• The base salary range for this position is $105,000 to $125,000 annually, depending on geographic work location, relevant experience, skills, education, internal equity, security clearance, and contract requirements.
