We are seeking a talented Java Backend Engineer with 5-8 years of experience to join the team and build robust, scalable backend services that power the payments data ecosystem in San Jose, CA.

You will design and develop high-traffic, low-latency microservices processing millions of transactions daily, working with both real-time and batch data systems that directly impact financial operations.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain high-traffic backend services with low latency and high scalability

Build data-intensive microservices for payment event processing and data transformation

Write efficient, complex SQL queries for data manipulation, analysis, and reporting

Develop RESTful APIs and integrate with upstream/downstream systems

Optimize application performance for high-throughput, low-latency requirements

Implement robust error handling, logging, and monitoring for production systems

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and deliver solutions

Troubleshoot and resolve production issues with minimal supervision

Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and technical documentation

Contribute to system design and architecture decisions

Requirements

Required Qualifications (Must Have)

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field

Experience: 3+ years of experience developing large-scale applications with Java and Spring Boot

Backend Development:

Proven experience building high-traffic backend services with low latency, designed for scale

OOP Principles:

Deep understanding of advanced object-oriented design and development principles

SQL:

Strong ability to write complex SQL queries for data manipulation and analysis

Database Technologies:

Strong knowledge of SQL database and storage technologies

Data-Intensive Applications:

Good understanding of designing, developing, and testing data-intensive applications and microservices

Problem Solving:

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to work independently with minimal support

Preferred Qualifications (Nice To Have)

Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), particularly Pub/Sub and BigQuery

Expertise in online payments and related domains

Experience with NodeJS and React

Familiarity with distributed systems and event-driven architecture

Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)

Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices

Exposure to messaging systems (Kafka, Pulsar)
