Requirements
Must have:
- We require formal training or certification in software engineering concepts, along with 5+ years of applied experience.
- We require 4+ years of professional experience designing and developing software on AWS, with hands-on delivery involving AWS database services and the supporting infrastructure.
- We require strong practical expertise in Python and Terraform, including production-grade automation and infrastructure as code.
- We require advanced working knowledge of AWS services across traditional compute, containerized, and serverless environments, and how they connect with database services and platform guardrails.
- We require demonstrated experience leading the effective use of approved AI-assisted software development tools for coding, code review, test acceleration, and troubleshooting, with the ability to define validation standards for correctness, performance, and security.
- We require strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity, secure handling of inputs and outputs, and adherence to resiliency and security expectations, plus experience coaching engineers on compliant adoption.
- We require working experience with engineering toolchains such as Jira, Bitbucket, and Confluence, and daily development in IntelliJ IDEA and Visual Studio Code.
- We require practical experience with SQL and/or NoSQL concepts as applied to managed AWS database services, including data modeling, performance, availability, backup and restore, and troubleshooting.
- We require practical familiarity with AI-assisted coding tools such as GitHub Copilot and Microsoft Copilot, including effective prompting and disciplined verification before use in code or infrastructure configuration.
- We require a clear understanding of approved AI tool usage, including firm controls, avoidance of sensitive or confidential data in prompts, and engineering judgment to validate correctness, security, and compliance.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain designs, risks, and operational tradeoffs to engineering peers and partner teams are preferred.
- Experience influencing decisions across adjacent teams through clear technical proposals and collaborative delivery is preferred.
- Experience with JIRA Align or similar enterprise agile planning tools is preferred.
- Experience building reusable Terraform modules and standardized infrastructure patterns, including guardrails and policy-aligned defaults, is preferred.
- Experience operating AWS database platforms at scale, including monitoring, alerting, capacity management, backup and restore validation, and failover planning, is preferred.
- One AWS certification and Terraform Certified Associate certification are preferred.
- Demonstrated use of Copilot in team workflows to improve delivery outcomes, along with a strong understanding of LLM limitations and risks, is preferred.
Responsibilities:
- We lead the design and implementation of major components of the AWS database platform, including Postgres and RDS SQL Server, and the infrastructure that supports them from requirements through steady-state operations.
- We develop secure, high-quality production code and infrastructure automation, primarily in Python and Terraform, and review and troubleshoot code written by others.
- We shape product design, application behavior, and technical operations by proposing practical architectures, tradeoffs, and standards aligned with SDLC, security, and controls expectations.
- We partner with operations, SRE, security, risk, and controls teams to deliver compliant solutions, improve observability, reduce operational toil, and maintain audit-ready processes and documentation.
- We drive automation and CI/CD enhancements, including pipeline reliability, quality gates, testing strategy, and repeatable environment provisioning.
- We promote team adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes.
- We apply SDLC toolchain capabilities, including approved AI-assisted development and automation tools, to increase the value delivered by automation.
- We use AI-assisted developer tools such as GitHub Copilot and Microsoft Copilot to speed up routine engineering work, while validating and refining outputs to meet production and security standards.
- We define and reinforce safe team usage patterns for AI-assisted development, including verification expectations and adherence to firm controls before merge and release.
