Lead Software Engineer - Full Stack Developer

Requirements

Must have:

- Over 10 years of experience with Apache Drools, Java, and Spring Boot framework - Strong analytical and communication skills - Ability to understand requirements thoroughly and collaborate with cross-functional teams - Proven ownership of assigned features with a track record of delivering consistent and bug-free code to production

Responsibilities:

- Design, develop, and maintain Drools (KIE) rules utilizing DRL, Decision Tables, and Rule Templates to implement intricate underwriting, eligibility, and policy logic - Optimize rule execution to achieve low latency and high throughput, managing aspects like rule salience, agenda groups, rule flows, and conflict resolution - Ensure that decisions are deterministic, explainable, and auditable, in compliance with regulatory standards - Contribute to the overall architecture of decision-making and rules, focusing on rule set reusability, versioning, and controlled rollout - Engage in design reviews and technical discussions regarding rule design and platform development - Create unit tests and scenario-based tests to ensure rule behavior is validated across various decision paths - Troubleshoot production issues related to rule execution and support deployments in development, QA, and production environments - Serve as a subject matter expert in Drools and best practices for business rules, mentoring junior engineers - Establish and uphold standards for rule authoring, documentation, testing, and long-term maintainability

We are looking for a Lead Drools Engineer to join our team and to design, build, and maintain business rules for our large-scale underwriting and decision-making platform. This role will focus on transferring complex credit and risk policies into high-performance, explainable Drools rules that facilitate real-time decision-making. While this position is remote, there is potential for conversion to a full-time role, with the requirement that candidates reside within 50 miles of select corporate offices in locations such as Evansville, IN; Baltimore, MD; Wilmington, DE; Charlotte, NC; or Irving, TX, and be on-site three days a week.
