Job Title: Python Developer II (Calculation Engine & API Services)

Role Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Python Developer to support the design, development, and enhancement of a modular calculation engine powering sustainability, efficiency, and scenario analysis workflows. The role focuses on building scalable Python services, REST APIs, reusable calculation libraries, and high-performance backend systems that support complex calculations, simulations, analytics, and reporting capabilities.
Scope of Work & Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and support modular Python services and REST APIs for calculation engine capabilities.
- Translate business rules, formulas, dependency flows, and scientific models into scalable and maintainable software components.
- Develop calculation services for energy, water, materials, embodied carbon, cost analysis, baseline standards, scenario simulations, and anomaly management.
- Build reusable Python libraries, validation frameworks, data models, and configuration services.
- Develop and maintain APIs using FastAPI, Pydantic, and PostgreSQL.
- Integrate calculation services with enterprise applications through secure and well-defined API contracts.
- Optimize application performance through query tuning, caching, asynchronous processing, and service scalability improvements.
- Develop automated unit, integration, regression, and API test suites using PyTest.
- Support system integration testing, UAT activities, production deployments, and post-release support.
- Maintain technical documentation including API specifications, data dictionaries, deployment guides, and support runbooks.
- Implement logging, monitoring, auditability, exception handling, configuration management, and operational support processes.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, code reviews, release planning, backlog refinement, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of professional Python development experience delivering production-grade backend applications or calculation services.
- Strong proficiency in modern Python, object-oriented design, modular architecture, dependency management, and coding best practices.
- Hands-on experience developing REST APIs using FastAPI.
- Strong knowledge of Pydantic, data validation, API versioning, authentication, and OpenAPI documentation.
- Strong SQL and PostgreSQL expertise including database design, indexing, query optimization, and transaction management.
- Experience building reusable Python libraries, utilities, packages, and frameworks.
- Experience with PyTest, configuration management, caching mechanisms, and application performance optimization.
- Ability to convert complex business rules, formulas, calculations, or scientific models into deterministic and testable software components.
- Experience with Azure services, Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, logging, and application deployment practices.
- Strong understanding of secure software development, resilience, auditability, and operational support models.
- Experience leveraging AI, Generative AI, intelligent automation, or developer productivity tools to improve engineering efficiency.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.
- Experience working within Agile delivery teams and distributed environments.
Preferred Skills:
