Requirements
Must have:
- We require 7+ years of relevant professional software engineering experience, or 5+ years of software engineering experience demonstrated through work, consulting, training, military service, or education.
We need strong expertise in Python, including production-level experience with PySpark.
We are looking for backend experience with FastAPI and/or Flask.
We value frontend experience with React and/or Angular.
We require experience with SQL Server and/or Exadata.
We need hands-on exposure to Kafka or similar streaming technologies.
We require experience working in Agile or Scrum delivery environments.
We are looking for strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
We need the ability to mentor and guide other engineers in a senior technical contributor capacity.
We prefer candidates with experience in financial institutions or enterprise accounting environments.
We prefer familiarity with financial data flows, general ledger concepts, and accounting terminology.
We consider experience with Agentic AI frameworks such as LangGraph, LangChain, and A2A a plus.
We also value knowledge of Java, Scala, SQL, HiveQL, Hadoop, Spark, HDFS, Hive, Cloudera, Hortonworks, AWS, ETL/ELT tools, data integration and migration, data modeling, CI/CD automation, and Kubernetes.
Responsibilities:
- We design, build, and modernize backend services that replace legacy mainframe functionality on a distributed platform.
We develop and support data ingestion, validation, and transformation pipelines using Python and PySpark.
We create and maintain APIs with FastAPI and/or Flask.
We collaborate in a Scrum team with Product Owners, business stakeholders, and Operations partners.
We act as Python subject matter experts and mentor engineers transitioning from mainframe technologies.
We contribute to frontend work with React and Angular when needed.
We help ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data feeds that flow into general ledger systems.
We take part in technical design discussions, code reviews, and architecture decisions.
We communicate technical concepts clearly through documentation, presentations, and stakeholder conversations.
We support CI/CD workflows and cloud-native deployments using containerized platforms.
We consult on complex engineering initiatives and help resolve multifaceted technical challenges.
We collaborate with client personnel to deliver against project objectives and compliance requirements.
Company:
We are modernizing a core mainframe-based financial application by rebuilding it on a distributed platform that serves as the front door for financial data and the system of record feeding downstream general ledger systems. This role sits within Corporate Accounting and supports enterprise financial reporting and controls. It is a 12-month opportunity based in San Francisco, CA, with a pay range of $75 to $85 per hour on W2. Our full-time consultants are eligible for benefits that include medical, dental, vision, and 401K contributions, along with PTO, sick leave, and other applicable state or local leave benefits. This is a hands-on senior individual contributor role for someone who can operate as a technical SME, coach teammates, and communicate effectively across both technical and non-technical audiences.
