About The Role The Senior Tableau and Python Developer role at UnitedHealth Group within Optum Insight presents an exciting opportunity for a seasoned professional passionate about data visualization, automation, and analytics. This remote position allows you to work from anywhere within the United States, providing flexibility to balance professional and personal commitments. The primary responsibility is to design, develop, and implement advanced dashboards, reports, and automation solutions tailored for State Government markets.

You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including ETL specialists and senior leadership, to translate complex data into actionable insights that inform decision-making and improve operational efficiencies. Your expertise will support the creation of scalable, standardized solutions that enhance data understanding and facilitate strategic planning for government clients. The role also involves conducting detailed data analyses, supporting user acceptance testing, and delivering presentations that communicate insights effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

For team members based in Minneapolis or Washington, D.C., a minimum of four days per week in the office is required, fostering collaboration and team engagement.

Qualifications

Candidates should possess a minimum of five years of experience in developing Tableau dashboards, Python programming, and data analysis, demonstrating a strong technical foundation. Additionally, a background of at least three years in Business Objects and one year working with Teradata is preferred. Proficiency in writing complex SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers, and joins is essential for success in this role.

Candidates must have excellent communication skills, capable of delivering technical and business-level presentations to diverse audiences, and experience working directly with clients to understand their data needs. Familiarity with MS Office products and the ability to travel up to 10% as required by client engagements are also necessary.

Preferred qualifications include experience in Medicaid, Medicare, commercial payer environments, and working with claims data, which will be advantageous in understanding the nuances of healthcare data analytics.

Responsibilities The primary responsibilities include designing, developing, and delivering Tableau dashboards and reports in a timely manner, working closely with ETL teams to gather data requirements, resolve data issues, and document solutions. You will develop Python-based transaction engines and automation tools to streamline reporting processes, ensuring efficiency and accuracy. Supporting external client UAT (User Acceptance Testing) and planning for the deployment of dashboards and automation solutions are key tasks, alongside creating comprehensive visualizations that provide meaningful insights.

You will lead client data education workshops, guiding stakeholders through dashboards and analytics tools to maximize value. Performing detailed data analysis to assess the structure, content, and quality of source data, and executing complex SQL queries to support reporting requirements, are integral parts of your role. Additionally, you will follow and enhance established standards for BI and related technologies, ensuring consistency and best practices across projects.

Regularly collaborating with senior leadership, you will present quarterly updates on project progress, insights gained, lessons learned, and how clients are leveraging BI products to drive strategic initiatives.
