RPG Programmer

Programmers.io is currently looking for an RPG Programmer REMOTE ROLE Occasional onsite presence may be required for knowledge transfer or key discussions in New Jersey (NJ) Contract Role - Open for W2 or C2C Job Summary We are looking for a Senior RPG Developer to support and enhance a Warehouse Management System (WMS) running on IBM i (AS400). This is a US‑based, long‑term role focused on system stability, support, and knowledge transfer, as a key legacy developer plans to retire gradually.

This is not a short‑term or reporting‑only role. The developer should be comfortable working on large IBMi systems used in logistics / warehouse operations.

Key Responsibilities Support and enhance IBM i (AS400) WMS applications

Work closely with an existing senior developer for knowledge transfer

Handle production support, bug fixes, and enhancements

Understand and modify large RPG codebases

Support batch jobs, background programs, and CL scripts

Ensure system stability in a high‑volume warehouse environment

Assist in documenting critical system flows where required

Coordinate with teams handling BizTalk integrations and LANSA‑based screens Must‑Have Skills Strong experience on IBM i / AS400

Hands‑on experience with RPG (RPG III / RPG IV / RPG400 – fixed or mixed format)

Good knowledge of

CL programs

DB2 on IBM i

Batch and background jobs

Experience working on legacy systems with limited documentation

Comfortable with green‑screen (5250) environments

Able to independently troubleshoot production issues Functional / Domain Knowledge- Experience or strong understanding of:

Warehouse Management Systems (WMS)

Logistics / 3PL environments

Inventory management

High‑SKU warehouse operations
