Job description

About the Role

Southeast Culvert Inc. is seeking a Software Developer to maintain, extend, and build internal software, data, reporting, and automation tools that solve business problems, improve productivity, and deliver value to employees across the organization.

Working under senior technical guidance, you will develop Python applications, build reporting solutions, support SQL Server systems, maintain estimating and pricing tools, and manage scheduled automations. The role provides a structured development path toward independent ownership of the systems and reporting estate.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain and enhance existing Python applications in production.

  • Build new software tools and reports based on project requirements gathered directly from business departments.
  • Own the Power BI reporting estate, including scheduled refreshes, data models, and new report development.
  • Work with the SQL Server reporting database and scheduled agent jobs to support reporting requirements.
  • Support and maintain the desktop suite of estimating and pricing tools distributed through an installer.
  • Manage scheduled automations connecting systems across multiple environments.
  • Use approved AI coding tools, such as Claude Code, within company standards.
  • Follow established development practices, including version control, separate environments, code reviews, and documentation.
  • Work directly with departments such as estimating and the plant floor to understand business requirements.
  • Maintain current documentation and a named backup for every owned system.
  • Participate in regular code evaluation and plan review sessions.
  • Complete a fully supervised project through the development pipeline within the first 90 days.
  • Progress toward ownership of the reporting estate.
  • Identify and address issues proactively rather than waiting for assigned tickets.
  • Build solutions based on business needs and requirements.

Required Qualifications

Strong, hands-on Python development skills applied to real business problems.

  • Experience using an AI coding assistant on real work, including the ability to identify when generated code is incorrect.
  • Ability to read and understand existing code and anticipate its behavior before execution.
  • Working knowledge of SQL or strong willingness to learn SQL quickly.
  • Ability to identify potential production issues such as empty inputs and date boundary conditions.
  • Ability to work within defined software development standards and communicate when a standard does not fit a particular problem.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical work to non-technical coworkers.
  • Dependable follow-through and strong documentation habits.
  • Ability to understand business requirements by asking appropriate questions rather than making assumptions.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and respond proactively when issues occur.
  • Willingness to work on-site in Winder, GA.
  • Willingness to sign a confidentiality agreement and a time-capped, limited non-compete restricting employment with a direct competitor for one year.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Angular and TypeScript, or willingness to learn these technologies as the role develops toward front-end ownership.

  • Exposure to Azure cloud engineering.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with containerization.
  • Experience with advanced data modeling.
  • Previous experience owning a reporting estate or production software tools with minimal supervision.
  • Four-year college degree in a relevant field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
