About The Role We are seeking an exceptional Staff Software Engineer specializing in Typescript to join our remote team based in the United States. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence the technical evolution of the Torus platform by leading the development of scalable, robust backend systems that integrate hardware, firmware, cloud infrastructure, and automation solutions. As a key member of our engineering team, you will work closely with cross-functional groups including Product, Design, Firmware, Data Science, and Manufacturing to deliver impactful solutions within our renewable energy ecosystem.

Your responsibilities will encompass both hands-on development and strategic planning, ensuring the platform’s architecture supports current needs and future growth. You will identify technical gaps, promote best practices in cloud-native development, and take ownership of complex initiatives from conception to production and maintenance. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership, and innovative thinking at the intersection of distributed systems, IoT, AI, and cloud computing.

Qualifications Expert-level proficiency in modern backend development using TypeScript

Deep experience designing and implementing serverless, event-driven architectures on AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, IoT Core, Step Functions, CDK)

Proven track record building scalable APIs, data pipelines, and distributed systems at scale

Strong hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), infrastructure as code, and observability tools (e.g., Datadog)

Production experience with AI/ML systems, including AWS Bedrock, LangChain, LangGraph, and related tools

Comprehensive understanding of security, authentication, authorization, and compliance considerations

8+ years in software development with 3-4+ years in technical leadership roles such as staff, principal, or architecture leadership

Experience leading large-scale technical projects and influencing cross-team technical decisions

Excellent mentorship skills and a proven ability to elevate engineering talent

Strong communication skills capable of translating complex technical concepts for diverse audiences

Ability to work independently, take ownership, and thrive in fast-paced environments

Background in systems thinking, architecture, and emerging technologies Responsibilities Lead the evolution of platform architecture for distributed, cloud-native systems in AWS serverless environments

Collaborate with the Lead Architect and engineering teams to define technical strategy and architecture decisions

Design and develop scalable backend systems, APIs, microservices, and data models supporting customer-facing applications and internal tools

Conduct design reviews, architecture sessions, and cross-domain planning to ensure system robustness and scalability

Identify and address architectural gaps and technical debt proactively to maintain system integrity

Champion engineering standards, best practices, and patterns organization-wide

Embed AI and automation capabilities into the platform, including recommendation engines and decisioning systems

Implement performant, secure, and maintainable backend solutions using TypeScript and AWS services

Develop RESTful APIs, event-driven workflows, and hardware-software integration layers

Collaborate with front-end teams on web applications and SDK development for internal and external use

Ensure system reliability through observability, error handling, testing strategies, and CI/CD pipelines

Design security protocols, authentication, and compliance measures from the ground up

Partner with product, design, firmware, and IoT teams to translate user needs into technical solutions

Mentor engineering team members and foster a culture of continuous improvement
