About The Role Auria is seeking a highly skilled Lead Software Engineer to join our team supporting projects with the US Space Force. This role is primarily remote, with a preference for candidates located in Colorado Springs, CO.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the development of mission-critical software solutions that span cloud-native infrastructure, secure platform solutions, and advanced space communication systems. You will engage in the full software development lifecycle, from requirements analysis to post-deployment support, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and secure applications. The role involves close collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, system engineers, and stakeholders to design, prototype, and implement innovative solutions that address the unique challenges of space domain operations.
As a leader, you will also mentor junior engineers, foster best practices, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the team. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on mission-driven projects that have a direct impact on national security and space exploration efforts.
Qualifications
- Active U.S. Government SECRET security clearance (requires U.S. Citizenship), SCI eligibility
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or related field
- 7+ years of software development experience on DoD/federal programs, including solution delivery or system integration projects
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C++, C#, Java / Groovy, or Python
- Experience with development environments like Visual Studio, Eclipse, or IntelliJ
- Knowledge of security concepts, attack vectors, and vulnerability mitigation in software applications
- Experience with source control systems such as GitLab, including branching strategies and collaborative workflows
- Ability to produce comprehensive system documentation including design, requirements, and testing plans
- Experience developing software for complex satellite systems with limited guidance
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and tools such as Jira and Confluence
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and technical documentation skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Motivated by mission-driven objectives and a collaborative work ethic
- Lead the full software development lifecycle, ensuring high-quality and reliable solutions
- Develop prototypes and proofs-of-concept to demonstrate innovative capabilities
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, code reviews, testing, and debugging activities
- Design and implement mission-specific software applications supporting space and communication operations
- Collaborate with system engineers and software architects to identify areas for improvement and implement enhancements
- Produce detailed system documentation, including design descriptions, requirements, and test plans
- Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to stakeholders at various levels
- Identify security vulnerabilities within code and develop strategies to mitigate risks
- Contribute to continuous process improvement initiatives within the development team
