About The Role We are seeking a talented Software Development Engineer to join the Amazon OpenSearch Service team. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining highly available, scalable, distributed systems that support log analytics, search, and observability workloads for our customers.

You will work on a broad spectrum of technical challenges, including data ingestion, cluster management, query optimization, and multi-tenant infrastructure, ensuring that our services operate seamlessly at massive scale across all AWS regions. This role offers a unique opportunity to innovate within a high-performance, AI-forward team, contributing to features that empower hundreds of thousands of customers worldwide.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software development experience
• 2+ years of experience in system design or architecture, focusing on reliability and scalability
• Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Java, Rust, Python, or Golang
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field
• Experience with full software development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, testing, and deployment
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, Agile/Scrum environment
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and support high-throughput, highly available, distributed, multi-tenant cloud-native systems
• Write robust, efficient, and maintainable code primarily in Java and Rust
• Lead the development and maintenance of key features for Amazon OpenSearch Service
• Design and implement scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems to meet customer needs
• Address challenging problems in data ingestion, auto-scaling, data storage, search and query optimization, security, and machine learning integration
• Identify operational improvements to reduce maintenance and development costs
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions
• Participate in code reviews, testing, and deployment processes to ensure high-quality deliverables
• Stay updated with emerging technologies and incorporate best practices into system design
