MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

5 years of experience programming in C, C++, or Rust.

Experience in kernel programming.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience developing and debugging (Linux) kernel code.

Experience developing hypervisors/virtual machine monitors.

Track record of involvement within the Linux development community.

We build, support, enhance and maintain the Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM)

hypervisor in the Linux kernel.

Our work powers the virtual machine fleet in Google Compute Engine and contributes to advancing the virtualization technology, from new approaches to security and confidentiality all the way to minimizing disruption for our most advanced AI/ML customer workloads.

We collaborate on new hardware platforms on both x86 and ARM, engage with CPU vendors, and actively participate in the kernel community, internally and upstream.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $166,000-$244,000 +

bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Plan, design, develop, test and maintain virtualization features across kernel and userspace.

Triage, investigate and resolve virtualization issues in the Linux kernel.

Improve security, reliability and performance of virtualization.

Collaborate within the team and across teams and organizations.
