About The Role The Principal Software Architect at HackerOne will play a pivotal role in defining and driving the architectural vision of the HackerOne Platform. This role involves shaping the future of our core systems to ensure they are scalable, reliable, secure, and optimized for AI-driven offensive security. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with Product Managers, Designers, and Engineering leadership to translate business strategies into sustainable system architectures that support the company's growth and innovation goals.

Leading cross-team initiatives to modernize architecture, improve observability, and reduce system complexity will be key responsibilities. The role also emphasizes mentoring engineering teams, evaluating emerging technologies—including AI, GenAI, and large language models—and establishing architectural governance and documentation standards. Effective communication of architectural strategies to both technical and non-technical stakeholders will be essential to foster alignment and ensure long-term system health and performance.

Qualifications 10+ years of experience in software engineering and system architecture within a SaaS environment.

Proven track record designing and delivering large-scale distributed systems, ideally with technologies such as Ruby on Rails, ReactJS, TypeScript, GraphQL, and ElasticSearch/OpenSearch.

Hands-on experience with GenAI and LLM integration in production systems; understanding of model lifecycle or AI-assisted architectures is a strong plus.

Demonstrated experience leading architectural initiatives spanning multiple teams and product domains.

Excellent communication and influence skills, capable of aligning technical and non-technical stakeholders around shared goals.

Responsibilities Define and evolve the architectural vision for HackerOne's platform and core systems to ensure scalability, reliability, and performance.

Partner with Product, Platform, and Security teams to translate long-term business and product goals into actionable architectural strategies.

Collaborate with Principal and Distinguished Engineers to establish shared standards and evolve system design principles.

Lead major initiatives to modernize architecture, enhance observability, and reduce system complexity.

Mentor and guide engineering teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.

Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies, including AI and GenAI, to enhance platform capabilities.

Drive architectural governance and documentation to ensure maintainability and transparency.

Communicate architectural strategies effectively to diverse stakeholders, building alignment and trust.

Identify strategic opportunities within the first 30-60-90 days and lead initiatives that impact the organization at a broad level.
