WebMethods and Core Java
Must Have Technical/Functional Skills
Primary Skill: WebMethods Integration Server, webMethods Developer / Designer, API Gateway, Core Java, Java Services, SOAP / REST Web Services, XML / JSON, WSDL / XSD, API Development, Integration Services
Experience: Minimum 10 years
Roles & Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain integrations on webMethods (Integration Server/Designer) for REST/SOAP, file, and messaging-based flows.
- Build and manage APIs via webMethods API Gateway, including policies for security, throttling, versioning, and analytics.
- Implement adapters/connectors (DB, JMS, file, SFTP, ERP/CRM where applicable) and configure connection pools, transactions, and error handling.
- Develop reusable services and flow logic (Flow services, Java services) with robust logging, auditing, and exception management.
- Create secure SOAP/REST services using standards (OpenAPI/Swagger, WSDL), including input validation, schema contracts (XSD/JSON Schema), and payload transformations (XML/JSON).
- Leverage Core Java for custom utilities, complex transformations, helper libraries, and performance-critical components within webMethods services.
- Ensure security-by-design—OAuth2/JWT, API keys, TLS/mTLS, RBAC, secrets management, and compliance for PII/regulated data.
- Optimize performance—tune service execution, thread pools, connection pools, caching, and payload sizes; perform load/perf testing and remediation.
- Set up monitoring & observability—dashboards, alerts, and log correlation for Integration Server, API Gateway, queues, and downstream dependencies.
- Implement CI/CD for webMethods assets and API specs (package management, promotion across DEV/QA/PROD, automated tests, approvals).
- Design integration patterns—synchronous/asynchronous, pub/sub, request–reply, correlation/compensation, idempotency, and retry/DLQ strategies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (BAs, QA, Security, Platform) to refine requirements, estimate, plan releases, and ensure integration readiness.
- Conduct unit, integration, and contract testing for services/APIs; create mocks/stubs and automate regression suites.
- Provide production support & RCA—triage incidents, analyze logs/metrics, implement permanent fixes, and update runbooks/playbooks.
- Maintain documentation—HLD/LLD, interface catalogs, API specifications, sequence/data flow diagrams, deployment steps, and operational SOPs.
