Abby Pender

Hi! I’m Abby, and I’m a Media and Journalism major with minors in Data Science and Spanish at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC). I’m currently the Assistant University Editor of The Daily Tar Heel (DTH), and plan to pursue a career in data-driven investigative journalism. I’m particularly interested in economics and politics, and am looking for an internship with a media outlet this summer. I would also love to get some international reporting experience.

In addition to the DTH, I report on the latest venture capital and entrepreneurial news in the Southeast for GrepBeat Triangle Tech. I've always been interested in technology, data, and innovation, and I've recently begun exploring interactive media design. Additionally,I have a creative writing blog to highlight personal experiences and perspectives of students, and am a member of the Investigative Reporting and Editing Association.

At UNC, I am a member of Alpha Chi Omega, the Carolina Data Analytics club, and serve as a Campus Ambassador for Princess Polly (an ethically sourced women’s clothing brand).

I would describe myself as an ambitious and curious student eager to become a global citizen through interdisciplinary education and empathetic conversation. I love to connect with others and am looking forward to meeting people in the journalism industry.
