Alex Cochran

Formerly editorial illustrator and graphic designer at Deseret News, I'm now an Instructor of Record at the University of Idaho, along with taking on freelance work. I specialize in editorial illustration, where I freelance with clients including The Atlantic, Yahoo News and Utah News Dispatch. I also have experience within the graphic design industry where I've worked in-house and freelanced for multiple companies including architecture firms, commercial real estate and health sciences.

For each company, I've created both web and print assets for different marketing needs.

Instructor of Record/Freelance Graphic Designer & Illustrator at the University of Idaho (Current)

• I facilitate a detailed and effective learning environment for students at an undergraduate level looking to pursue a career within the design industry; teaching classes that range from covering basic design tools, to developing concepts and preparing them to work with future clients. 
• I participate in volunteer/service opportunities, such as assisting with workshops and conferences held on campus in what ever needs arise. 
• I also create illustrations for university events and announcements in different forms of marketing, including print materials and social media content.

• I conceptualized and quickly execute editorial illustrations, working in a diverse group of beats, including entertainment, politics, religion, opinion and health. 
• I created website style guide used as a template for icons, graphs, and type-based layouts. 
• I also produced internal and external graphic collateral including event branding, logos, advertisements, company swag and internal culture pieces.

I hold a Bachelors of Arts in Graphic Design from Saginaw Valley State University.
