Alex Rizzuti

Hello, my name is Alex Rizzuti. I have always known I've wanted to care for others in any form. Old or young. Growing up, I took care of my foster mother, who had a brain tumor. I made meals, cleaned after her, helped her around, and did whatever she needed me to.

When I moved out of foster care, I was introduced to an older, disabled woman. From there, I went on to care for her while living with her. I made her meals, hand washed her laundry, went with her to her appointments, and helped her with her wheelchair.

I eventually got a professional job in caregiving. I worked as a private caregiver for around 3 years. I took care of an older woman in her 90s, who used a wheelchair and lived in an old folks home. I worked long hours, sometimes working 48 hour shifts.

I helped her out of bed, dressed her, showered her, fed her, entertained her, and whatever I could do to make her end of life better. She ended up passing and I was able to hold her hand and be there for her in her final moments. I took care of a younger woman after that for a year.

I helped her find courage to walk again, to get out and interact with others again. Now, I live in Indiana, far from North Carolina where I used to live. I have worked with two companies as a caregiver.

One company was named Home Helpers Home Care. While working there, I helped take care of a woman living with MS. I bathed her, fed her, drove her to her appointments using her personalized van, and we both enjoyed each other's company.

I am currently working with Heartfelt Connections. I handle many clients on a weekly basis who all need different amounts of care. I've just recently obtained my Home Health Aide certification. I am ready to continue working with others and I am hoping to get more hours working.

• I learned how to write detailed notes about clients' day and what I did.
• Helped clients around the home and took them to their meals.
