Served as Analytic Lead for Department of Revenue and Department of Early Care and Learning, built Visual Analytics reports and dashboards, worked on COVID project for Minnesota's PPE inventory management.
- Was the Analytic Lead for a Department of Revenue, helped them work with their audit data and built reports that allowed them to more accurately and thoroughly investigate possible tax fraud; Collected requirements for reporting for Managers to monitor auditor performance and Lead Generation for future audits
- Was also the Analytic Lead for a state's Department of Early Care and Learning to use their data to find and stop fraudulent use of state tax dollars
- Aided Pre-sales in answering RFP requests
- Worked with ETL team to implement code to prepare client provided data for use in SAS Visual Analytics
- Built Visual Analytics reports and dashboards for clients to their specifications while also suggesting improvements based on my data visualization expertise
- Worked with clients through requirements gathering on multiple phases of their multi-year projects
- Was the Data Visualization expert on a pro bono COVID project to help MN predict how long each of their regions' current PPE inventory would last, allowing them to know when to order more, and how they could transport PPE from some regions to others without depleting either region
- Worked with a national lender on their Anti-Money Laundering detection for their import and export financing
- Worked with a Department of Unemployment to create an Executive Dashboard that helped them see how many claims were being investigated at any given time as well as those that were waiting for investigation
Sr. SAS Programmer Consultant at Experis (2015-04 – 2018-11)
Built and maintained SAS macro library, analyzed marketing test results, converted ad hoc programs into robust processes, ran monthly modeling processes.
- Independently built and maintained a library of SAS macros for a variety of common tasks such as data exploration, graphing, modeling, and cluster analysis
- Helped analyze marketing test results and prepared graphs to display the results for Senior Leadership helping them in their digital transformation
- Assisted other teammates with SAS questions as needed; Served as SAS Subject Matter Expert for the entire team
- Presented an overview of how models are built and why they are used to a non-statistical Senior Leader
- Converted team members' ad hoc SAS programs into robust, repeatable processes
- Solely responsible for running monthly modeling process; Maintained code library and results data; Produced graphs that were reported to Senior Leaders to aid in their business decisions
Statistician/Sr. SAS Programmer/Sr. Data Scientist at Capital One (1999-01 – 2014-07)
Built predictive models, directed SAS Data Mining exploration, designed and taught technical classes, mentored SAS programmers, created coding standards and governance systems.
- Built predictive logistic regression models and dual validated direct mail campaigns; Automated the SAS/COBOL dual validation
- Directed Capital One's exploration of the SAS Data Mining Tool; Designed experiments to benchmark SAS performance and participated in testing scenarios
- Helped design, coordinate, and teach a series of technical classes for new statisticians and data analysts; Authored and edited class content; Worked with the corporate internal training team to coordinate schedules and trainers; Trained future trainers; Incorporated student feedback into the content and future training sessions
- Mentored new SAS programmers on behalf of their non-technical managers; Answered code questions; Provided guidance on training; Performed code reviews; Provided their manager with end-of-year performance feedback on their SAS skills
- Created coding standards and a robust process for implementing new models into a new production platform; Was solely responsible for dual validating all models on next-generation scoring platform; Maintained those coding standards for all new models; Designed and was the sole performer for the process for all new models to confirm that code conformed to established standards and that all quality checks were performed
- Assisted in design, testing, and maintenance of the Model Governance System and its replacement, the Model Governance Risk System; Maintained extensive metadata for all data in all models in the company; Participated in requirements gathering for the new system, including cataloging breakdowns and opportunities within the previous system leading to great process improvements; Established standards for the new system to prevent recurrence of the same issues; Participated in regression testing and User Acceptance Testing of the new system and trained users of the new system; Became the reporting expert for both systems, including quarterly compliance reporting
- Designed a process to summarize data from two different production scoring platforms on a monthly basis; Created a series of algorithms to determine which of the 3000+ data elements showed concerning data trends; Reviewed these results on a quarterly basis; Produced a quarterly memo alerting the statistician community of the trends in the data, preventing unstable and questionable data elements from being included in current and future model development
- Designed and was the sole performer of a robust process, and built an extensive series of SAS macros, to produce standardized monitoring charts for all the data used in all models on three separate platforms allowing Sr. Statisticians to focus on interpreting reports rather than second-guessing variances caused by different coders working across platforms
Independent SAS Programming Consultant at Predilytics (2014-07 – 2014-09)
Wrote SAS macros for health insurance claims data and monitoring reports for model inputs and outputs.
- Wrote a suite of SAS macros that produced summarized variables from raw health insurance claims data. This was an improvement over the existing code in that it produced four times as many variables in less than a third of the time and the variables added significant lift to the models built
- Wrote a suite of SAS and VBA macros that produced monitoring reports on model inputs and outputs allowing a quicker comparison of the lift between models and to check the consistency of existing models
