Accelerator-driven systems

About

Nuclear and accelerator physicist with extensive experience in accelerator systems, isotope production, radiation transport, nuclear safety, beam dynamics, scientific computing, and experimental nuclear physics. Proven ability to develop physics-based models, simulation frameworks, control algorithms, and research software for complex engineering and scientific applications. Experienced in accelerator facility commissioning, isotope-production programs, radiation protection, shielding design, particle tracking, automation, and distributed control systems.

Strong background in integrating modeling, experimental data, software, and controls to support advanced research facilities and technology development. Effective multidisciplinary collaborator with experience working across physics, nuclear engineering, accelerator science, controls, software development, and experimental programs. Comfortable leading technical activities as well as contributing independently in fast-paced R&D environments.

Experience

Principal Nuclear Engineer at Argonne National Laboratory (2019-09 – Present)

Support DOE and NNSA programs in isotope production, accelerator development, nuclear engineering, and applied research.

  • Support commissioning, operation, and continued development of accelerator-based isotope-production facilities.
  • Develop beam-control, accelerator-automation, and optimization methods to improve Linac reliability and performance.
  • Develop and support EPICS-based accelerator controls, instrumentation, diagnostics, and beam monitoring.
  • Perform Monte Carlo radiation-transport, activation, isotope-production, shielding, and nuclear-safety simulations.
  • Develop physics-based digital twins and AI-agent workflows for accelerator modeling, scientific software, diagnostics, and optimization.
  • Support irradiation campaigns, detector measurements, and isotope-production quality control using gamma spectroscopy.
  • Selected programs: Mo-99 production — radiation-protection and shielding studies for NorthStar; Nuclear-safety and Uranium-Fuel performance analysis for Eden; Materials-Irradiation Studies supporting SHINE. Cu-67 production — simulation and experimental support for Argonne's accelerator-based program. Accelerator reliability — modeling, beam-control algorithms, automation, control-system development, and operational improvements.

Postdoctoral Fellow at Northern Illinois University (2017-01 – 2019-01)

Integrable Optics Test Accelerator: developed symplectic-map methods for arbitrary 3D magnetic fields, adapted Normal Form techniques for integrable optics, and created Truncated Polynomial Series Algebra data structures for general PDE and ODE solvers.

Research Scholar at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (2016-03 – 2017-01)

Large Hadron Collider Upgrade Program: developed and validated a long-range beam-beam compensation model for the LHC, demonstrating its potential to improve beam lifetime.

Project Associate at CERN (2013-02 – 2016-02)

CLIC and LHC Upgrade Programs: developed symplectic tracking methods, studied LHC collimation and luminosity-monitoring systems, optimized the LINAC4 beam-loss monitoring system, and designed radiation shielding for CLIC control electronics.

Senior Researcher at Joint Institute for Power and Nuclear Research (2005-12 – 2013-01)

Accelerator-Driven Systems and Nuclear Measurements: developed experimental and non-destructive-assay methods, produced nuclear-reaction data included in EXFOR, and supported the design, commissioning, and operation of nuclear facilities.
