Lead Medical Assistant/Outpatient Care Coordinator at OU Medicine Child and Adolescent Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic (2021-01 – 2026 -3)
I provided both clinical and administrative support to psychiatric providers, patients, and their families. I roomed patients, took vital signs, reviewed medication and psychiatric histories, and ensured all documentation was accurately entered into the Epic electronic health record system, using both the Primary Care and ASAP modules for behavioral health documentation. I also assisted with medication refills, prior authorizations, and pharmacy communications.
Working closely with children and teens facing a range of behavioral and emotional challenges, I remained calm, observant, and supportive, always prioritizing safety and creating a welcoming environment. Alongside clinical duties, I managed outpatient care coordination. I scheduled appointments, followed up on treatment plans, processed referrals, and helped families navigate insurance requirements and behavioral health services.
I often served as the main point of contact for care-related questions and helped connect families with community resources such as therapists, school supports, and specialty providers. My ability to explain complex processes in a clear, compassionate way helped families feel more confident and supported throughout their child's treatment. This role strengthened my understanding of integrated behavioral healthcare and the value of detailed, collaborative documentation.
I used Epic daily to communicate with providers, update treatment plans, and ensure accurate charting across disciplines. I also participated in team huddles and case reviews to support continuity of care. By building trust with families and coordinating across providers and systems, I helped deliver consistent, patient-centered mental health support in a fast-paced outpatient setting.
