About

Senior Software Engineer with 10+ years building and operating backend and cloud infrastructure. Most recently on HubSpot’s Edge team, leading large-scale traffic migrations across load balancing, CDN, and DNS, and bringing AI into both the systems and the workflow: building agents that automate on-call triage and using Claude Code daily to debug and ship faster.

Experience

Senior Software Engineer (PaaS-Edge, L7 Load Balancers) - HubSpot - Remote, MA

(2024-05 - 2026-10)

  • Built an AI triage agent that gathers diagnostics from slowness tickets, identifies the likely root cause, and routes escalations to the right team, replacing a manual runbook and offloading a major share of Edge on-call triage.
  • Migrated AWS ALB traffic from Envoy to Nginx across multiple regions with a repeatable, staged rollout process, simplifying the edge stack with no customer-facing disruption.
  • Helped build an in-house Cloudflare state manager (Jsonnet, Kubernetes operators) that keeps DNS records in code, so changes are peer-reviewed and applied automatically instead of edited by hand; helped cut new-region setup from months to days.
  • Made HubSpot’s deploys resilient to Cloudflare outages after two critical incidents (including a SEV-2) in which an outage blocked teams from deploying fixes: added monitoring, made deploys skip the Cloudflare storage dependency by default, and moved a high-traffic production service off it, removing ∼4M calls to Cloudflare every 6 hours.
  • As an on-call engineer for edge infrastructure (load balancers, CDN, DNS) serving ∼30M requests per minute, triaged major incidents across Nginx, Envoy, Cloudflare, and Kubernetes, and supported high-traffic domain migrations (e.g., inbound.com); mentored new engineers through onboarding.

Senior Software Engineer - Embark Veterinary, Inc. - Boston, MA

(2019-11 - 2023-12)

  • Saved $40K per month in storage costs by leading cost-reduction work, including the migration of dog-relative data from DynamoDB to S3 using a custom compact encoding/decoding scheme.
  • Significantly reduced pipeline processing time by building a caching layer that eliminated redundant bioinformatics file downloads and co-building the company’s genotype database for fast per-dog data retrieval.
  • Re-architected the Delivery Creation Service in the core genetic-results pipeline, making result delivery more scalable and predictable while lowering cloud compute costs.
  • Kept the production pipeline running through on-call triage and hot-fixes; mentored junior engineers, led code reviews, and managed release cycles.

Senior Software Engineer - Edelman Financial Engines - Boston, MA

(2016-02 - 2019-11)

  • Helped the company save $8M in fee negotiations by replacing a lengthy manual report with a self-service management dashboard (SPA) backed by AWS.
  • Increased retail customer enrollment rate by enhancing the redesigned onboarding flow and enrollment API.
  • Built an event-driven reporting platform on AWS that captured end-to-end user journeys, giving the business visibility into customer behavior.
