Works on a cardiac surgical intensive care unit providing direct primary nursing care to post-operative patients recovering from cardiovascular/pulmonary and vascular surgeries. Patient ratios ranged from 1:1 to 1:3 depending on patient acuity. Receive patients out of the OR who have received vascular, interventional cardiology and pulmonary procedures (ie- PEVAR, TAVR, AAA repair/ EVAR and Carotid Endarterectomy's).

One of two nurses on the unit who has been trained by the critical care intensivists to place IV's under ultrasound guidance. When needed, acts as a preceptor for nursing students, new hire nurses for the unit, and nurses who are training to receive open heart patients from the OR. Floats to the neighboring Medical Intensive Care Unit, Interventional, Cath Lab Recovery and Telemetry units. Certified in the care of patients with multiple invasive devices including Mediastinal and Pleural Chest Tubes, LVADs, IABPs, Impellas, Epicardial Pacemakers, Arterial Lines, CRRT and SWAN Ganz Catheters. Competent in trach care, mechanical ventilation, patient extubation, interpreting venous and arterial blood gasses, titration of sedation and vasopressor medications. Use invasive hemodynamic monitoring devices such as Edwards Hemisphere and Vigileo to monitor, interpret and trend patients' hemodynamic changes.
