Electrical Avionics Engineer
Aviation Avionics and Instruments, Inc.-Owasso, OK
March 2022 to February 2025
Design & Development of Test Equipment
- Develop Interface Test Boxes (ITBs) and Automated Test Equipment (ATE) to diagnose, simulate, and troubleshoot avionics systems.
- Design electrical schematics, circuit boards, and wiring harnesses for test equipment.
- Integrate various communication protocols (e.g., ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553, CAN bus) into test systems.
- Utilized tools such as SolidWorks, Fusion, Genesis (proprietary PCB software), Draw.io, Smartdraw to maintain design quality and traceability in DAL-compliant workflows.
System Integration & Troubleshooting
- Analyze aircraft avionics wiring diagrams and interface control documents (ICDs) to design accurate test solutions.
- Develop test procedures for avionics components, including flight displays, navigation, communication,
and control systems.
- Use oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators, and spectrum analyzers to diagnose faults in aircraft electronics.
Software & Hardware Testing
- Collaborate with software engineers to develop test scripts for automated and manual testing.
- Verify and validate test equipment functionality against aircraft specifications.
- Perform hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing to simulate real aircraft conditions.
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure test equipment meets aviation standards (e.g., RTCA/DO-160, DO-254, DO-178 for software).
- Create technical documentation, test reports, and maintenance manuals.
- Developed and verified safety-critical avionics systems in accordance with Design Assurance Levels
(DAL) A through D, adhering to DO-178C and DO-254 guidelines.
- Support certification and qualification testing for regulatory compliance.
Support & Continuous Improvement
- Assist technicians in troubleshooting electrical faults in aircraft systems.
- Provide training on test equipment usage and troubleshooting procedures.
- Improve existing test solutions based on feedback from aircraft maintenance teams.
Testing & Validation of Avionics Components
- Perform bench testing and verification of avionics components removed from aircraft before repair or recertification.
- Develop and execute test scripts for automated diagnostics of avionics systems.
- Support Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing to simulate aircraft conditions during troubleshooting.
In summary, my role is critical in developing precise, reliable, and regulatory-compliant test equipment that helps aircraft technicians efficiently diagnose and resolve avionics issues.
