Elizabeth Almonte

I am from San Jose and I'm currently enrolled as a Public Health major at San Jose State University, and I am in my third year! I am a first generation biracial (Filipino and Russian) student, and I am also a fluent Russian speaker. I am very personable and work extremely well with other people and in team settings.

Throughout high school I was very involved in medical and science programs where I met many new people and was able to develop great leadership and communication skills. I am continuing to build these skills and develop my love for the field of medicine and health science even further in college, where I am completing a BS degree in Public Health & Human Biology.

Mercy San Juan Medical Center/ Hospital Intern

AUGUST 2019 - MARCH 2020 , Carmichael CA

This was an internship position that I was accepted to in my senior year of highschool through my Biomedical program. Although the position had to end earlier than planned because of the COVID-19 pandemic, my 8 months of interning 4 days a week at the hospital gave me a lot of first hand and hands on experience that was valuable in exposing me to the hospital environment. I shadowed nurses and PCT’s throughout their day with patients, learned about hospital administration, developed strong communication skills with hospital staff, learned how to talk to patients in poor health and from different backgrounds, learned the basics of how each hospital department works, and learned how to work in a fast paced environment.

Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento/ Shadow Experience

-shadowed OB/GYN Dr. Almonte, DO as a student on several occasions throughout shifts where I watched in on various procedures including Cesarean sections and live births, and got to meet nurses, physician assistants, and other staff members throughout the day who played important roles in deliveries and in the NICU.

Wake Island Water Park / Lifeguard/First Response

MAY 2021 - AUGUST 2022, Roseville California

As a certified lifeguard and first responder for two consecutive summers at a water park and water sports lake in Roseville CA, I had training in lifeguarding, water safety, and how to safely conduct rescues of people in distress in open water or with water related injuries. I did my training through Ellis & Associates, and I also received BLS and CPR certifications, as well as extensive training in various forms of complicated water rescues.

Antelope High School / High School Diploma

Throughout high school I maintained above a 4.0 GPA and graduated in the top 15 of my class. I danced for the Varsity team, was a member of several community service based clubs, and most importantly completed a 4 year Biomedical pathway program where I truly developed my interest, academic strengths, and passion for health sciences.

At San Jose State I am majoring in Public Health with a minor in Biology with plans of going on the Pre-Med route. I am enrolled full time in 17 units this term which is challenging but has also been great for me to keep myself busy and motivated.
