As a kid, I would spend hours drawing with my dad in his studio. I love to draw, and use drawing all the time as a tool to solve problems and effectively communicate design intent with team members. When I arrived at RISD I noticed immediately that the environment I was in; surrounded by enthusiastic passionate artists and designers, was equally as valuable a learning opportunity as the as the classes I was taking.
I use drawing as a primary language for capturing thoughts, exploring ideas, and then sharing those ideas. Sketches have an amazing ability to foster discussions about ideas. With colleagues and especially clients, I've found sketches give everyone involved the permission to consider, talk about, and challenge the ideas they represent.
Because sketches are unfinished and loose, they invite commentary. There is a latitude I inherent in a sketch that magically opens the door for others to offer i ideas - often thoughts one couldn't come up with from a singular perspective. I am still a student of architecture and wish to work in a collaborative environment that pushes the limits of my abilities and allows me to communicate my design ideas through drawing.
