I am a Junior at Iowa State University, studying mechanical engineering. I am looking for an internship opportunity for the summer of 2023.
This past summer I worked at Elgin Sweeper where I modeled the entire hydraulic system for a sweeper and created a new method for modeling hoses. I met with designers and engineering managers to fix inefficiencies within the hydraulic system as well. Two summers ago, I worked as a program counselor and backpacking guide in the remote mountains of New Mexico.
I led groups through challenge courses and demonstrated important leadership qualities as I coached and evaluated crews. My job required good communication and cooperation, as I taught crews about low-impact backpacking and dealt with the various challenges of high-adventure camping. Finally, three summers ago I worked as a laborer at Advanced Disposal, where I used various power tools and machinery daily.
I am very hands-on, and I am not afraid to get my hands dirty. I also worked with the engineering interns, helping them record the leachate levels of the pumps around the landfill.
As is shown in my resume, I am currently a Junior in mechanical engineering. In addition to my classes at Iowa State I am involved in several engineering student organizations. As a mechanical team member in Cyclone Rocketry, I work with other students to design, manufacture, and test internal components of the rocket.
As a member of the Solidworks club I collaborate on various projects and work with other students to complete complex parts that require teamwork, cooperation, and problem solving. I also utilize leadership and communication skills to help underclassmen with their personal or school projects.
