Experience
Product Design Engineer - CS Design - Roselle, IL
(2022-12 - 2023-12)
- Redesigned a portable air decontamination system for fire stations called StationProtect Facility Air Filter to significantly reduce the unit's size, weight, and assembly cost while adding new features and upgrading components. See https://tft.com/product/cc-602
- Created a detailed design from the client's concept for a fall arrest system for residential staircases.
Worldwide Procurement Group - Molex LLC - Lisle, IL
(1992-01 - 2019-10)
Product focus was on components for electrical connectors used in commercial applications such as Datacom. Components were sourced from Asian countries to be assembled into new products at Molex manufacturing facilities in China. Primarily sourced plastic injection-molded, stamped, and machined components. Also sourced rubber seals, die castings, metal plating, plastic plating, and connector hardware, as needed.
Senior Sourcing Engineer - Molex LLC - Lisle, IL
(2016-11 - 2019-10)
- Supported supplier production tooling development using my product and tooling design knowledge, which helped avoid unnecessary tooling delays.
- Initiated a new process of supplier feedback after sourcing events, which incentivized suppliers to reduce prices and participate in sourcing events since they could now see how they compared (anonymously) to their competition.
- Expanded sourcing events to include all suppliers qualified to quote that component, which incentivized suppliers to reduce prices since they could now see the total volume of business available to them.
Engineering Supervisor - Molex LLC - Lisle, IL
(2014-09 - 2016-11)
Solid State Lighting Group. Product focus was on electrical connectors (LED holders) for solid-state lighting, enabling Chip-On-Board (COB) LEDs to be integrated into new LED lighting products. Customers were all major COB LED manufacturers in the U.S. and Japan.
- Supervised consolidation of all the individually developed Molex brands of LED holders under one engineer, which allowed us to provide better support for marketing and sales.

- Awarded eight design patents, four of which allowed us to be the sole source of one of our most significant product lines.
- Designed and developed the LED holder for the Xicato XTM Module series, which continues to be a successful product line at Xicato. See https://www.xicato.com/products/light-sources/xtm/
- Designed and developed the LED holder for the Bridgelux Vero series, which continues to be a successful product line at Bridgelux. See https://www.bridgelux.com/products/vero-series
- Designed many other LED holder concepts, which resulted in three of the seven design patents mentioned above.
Project Manager/Advanced Quality Planning Engineer - Molex LLC - Lisle, IL
(2010-10 - 2011-11)
- Used my experience in the Automotive group to implement project management controls and AQP processes in our new Solid State Lighting group, which helped us work more cohesively with our manufacturing plants since they use these processes as part of their standard procedures.

Automotive Group. Product focus was on electrical connectors for automotive electronic control modules and inline harness assemblies. Customers were Ford, Motorola, Delphi, and Continental. Responsible for developing new automotive connector products to meet specific customer requirements and industry standards such as USCAR-2.
Responsible for organizing and following through with all steps in the product development process. Significant areas included working directly with customers to determine their needs; designing connectors and connector components using 3D CAD; reducing design errors using engineering tools such as dFMEA, tolerance analysis, FEA, and corporate design standards; delegating and supervising the work of support engineers and internal departments; reviewing drawings for the use of proper drafting standards and application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T); creating the Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R) and supporting the testing lab during product qualification; working with suppliers and manufacturing personnel on component designs (DFM), costs, and delivery schedules; review and approve Statistical Process Control (SPC) data; using Micr
- Designed and developed a product line that became our first significant program win at one of our targeted strategic customers. Besides increasing revenue, this also allowed us to make the cut when the customer reduced their number of suppliers.
- Designed and developed many other products for various customers that resulted in increased revenue and customer satisfaction.
- Designed a product feature (which resulted in a design patent) that allowed us to significantly reduce our tooling cost while reducing warranty costs for the customer.
