James Hicks is an artist, a designer and an architect.
As a designer, James has been involved in the design of cultural spaces and exhibitions throughout the United States and abroad for almost three decades. He has worked in all phases of design for a wide variety of clients, including: The New York Historical Society, The National Building Museum; The Vietnamese Academy of Social Sciences; NASA; the Smithsonian; the Vietnamese Women’s Museum in Hanoi; the American Museum of Natural History; USAID; and the New York City Transit Museum.
As an artist - through drawings, films, sculptures and architectural analysis - he has studied the physical and psychic landscapes of city of Pittsburgh. He also documents and interprets the faces and stories of individuals and works of art who he encounters as he goes through life.
James has taught at FIT in New York City, Columbia University, the National Institute of Desgin in Ahmedabad, India, the Parsons School of Design in New York and Maryland Institute College of Art.
