I currently work 14-16 eight-hour shifts per month with Utah Emergency Physicians. My primary role is providing direct care in the emergency departments of five Intermountain hospitals in the Salt Lake Valley: Intermountain Medical Center, Layton Hospital, Alta View Hospital, LDS Hospital, and Riverton Hospital. I am responsible for the rapid evaluation, triage, stabilization, and management of patients presenting with acute illness and injury; performing emergency procedures and point of care ultrasound (POCUS) as clinically indicated, and managing patient flow and departmental operations.
These hospitals vary considerably in size and practice environment, ranging from Level IV trauma centers with annual emergency department volumes of approximately 20,000 visits and single-physician coverage overnight to Intermountain Medical Center, a Level I trauma center with an annual volume of approximately 91,000 visits.
Center is a large academic center affiliated with a four-year emergency medicine residency program through UCSF-Fresno.
Center, I worked 14 eight-hour shifts per month, divided equally between academic and clinical shifts. During academic shifts, I supervised the care provided by emergency medicine residents, medical students, and advanced practice providers. During clinical shifts, I served as the sole provider, caring for patients with acute and emergent conditions.
I also participated in the provider-at-triage system, rapidly evaluating patients and performing medical screening examinations to determine acuity and the appropriate level of care.
I have seven years of experience in emergency medicine. My training includes an advanced emergency ultrasound fellowship, followed by several years working as a core faculty member with the UCSF-Fresno emergency medicine residency program. Most recently, I have practiced across multiple emergency departments throughout the Salt Lake Valley ranging from a high-volume Level I trauma center to multiple smaller community emergency departments.
