Hi there! My name is Jemimah Mayega, and animals have always held a special place in my heart. I’m now taking meaningful steps to turn that lifelong passion into a career in veterinary medicine. I'm actively seeking opportunities to volunteer, shadow, and learn from veterinary professionals — gaining hands-on experience, understanding the day-to-day life in a practice, and continuing to grow my skills.
I’m ready to get involved, assist, and learn from those who are making a difference every day. If you’re open to having an enthusiastic and dedicated worker, I’d love to connect!
Through CREST Youth Employment, which is under the city of Burbank and allows minors to work at different places in the city, I was able to work at the Burbank Animal Shelter. I worked at the shelter over the summer and gained over 200 hours over the three months working there.
I gained hands-on experience in animal care, shelter operations, and customer service. I assisted in daily shelter duties such as feeding, cleaning, and ensuring the comfort and well-being of animals. I also got the opportunity to interact with potential adopters and provide information about the animal they are interested in.
This internship provided me with valuable insight into the daily operations of an animal shelter, the challenges of managing many animals, and the importance of community outreach. It reinforced my passion for animal welfare and strengthened my skills in animal handling, customer relations, and team collaboration.
