John Clarkin

I am a retired police captain, Newark, NJ PD, 02/01/2025. Currently working in school security and as a school investigator. Specific traits I possess are a significant attention to detail, organizational skills, sense of urgency in accomplishing a task, ensuring due diligence is put forth, persistence, loyalty and easy manner of communication.

On a personal level I enjoy spending time with my kids, weight training, beach, boating, rafting, biking, cabin life, pickleball and live music.

I am currently working as an investigator and armed security officer for a northern Monmouth County school district. In addition, I have security experience with special needs school districts and other high value targets.

I am a retired police captain out of Newark, NJ PD, retiring in February 2025. I have extensive experience in many facets of law enforcement and public safety including patrol, investigations, administration and supervisory and management roles for same.

For my last 6 years at NPD, I was assigned to Newark's Consent Decree & Planning Division. This unit closely collaborated with the U.S. Department of Justice and U.S. Attorney's Office Civil Rights teams along with Newark's Federal Independent Monitoring Team to bring meaningful and modern reforms to the Newark, NJ PD.
